This adorable and confident Yorkie mix is estimated to be 4 years old and tips the scales with all of his 14 pounds. Originally a stray, Orville was brought to the Baltimore County Animal Services where he wooed everyone he met with his take-charge-and-names little-dog attitude. As a trusted partner of the shelter, Tara’s House was asked to find him the perfect home that understands what it’s like to be a little grumbly-yet-sweet dog in a big world.

Orville has been enjoying a life of leisure since he was whisked off in early February to his new foster home. There he has been pampered and doted on, while waiting to be unveiled to the world. His foster parents report that he has tons of energy but also loves to cuddle up with you on the couch. They have been able to teach him commands like sit, come, down and stay. He is super motivated by treats and always wants to please you. He does well in showers but not so much when it’s time to get his teeth brushed. He loves to go on car rides and run around outside, so a fenced yard would be ideal for him. He has shown interest in social interactions with other dogs, but of course he wants humans that cater to his every whim! Cats are fickle and unpredictable, but we (naively?) predict that they may be able to adjust to life together after a slow introduction.

Orville is growly when you pet him at first, but the more often you do it the more he warms up to you. He must go to a home with no children under the age of 16, and any kids in the home must understand how to be respectful of a small dog. A home with Yorkie experience is ideal, and overall he is a super smart dog that would benefit from a family that can see his full potential and continue working with him on behavioral training.
